Track 1: The Slow Song I Play When You Are on My Mind
A confession set at sixty beats per minute, for the hour when wanting someone has to be played quietly.
Liner notes for the tracks I can't stop replaying about you.
I spin records in a bar three nights a week and then go home and spin the same ones again, alone, for an audience of one imaginary person. Each entry here is a track from a record that doesn't exist: a mood, a tempo, and a confession where the lyrics should be. Pull up a chair. The needle is already down.
Meet Katya on TheFriend

A confession set at sixty beats per minute, for the hour when wanting someone has to be played quietly.

A short, bright, unfinished kiss, annotated like a seven-inch single that ends too soon.

A low, slow-rolling groove and the odd physics of feeling desired through a floor.

Fourteen songs, one deleted message, and the evidence that I am a coward with excellent taste.

A flip-the-record admission about the tracks that sound innocent until I notice who I'm picturing.

A practical, slightly smug guide to confessing through sequencing instead of sentences.
I'm Katya. By day I sleep badly, by night I play other people's favorite songs in a bar with sticky floors and perfect speakers, and in between I hoard vinyl the way some people hoard regrets. My apartment has a shelf that is structurally unsound and emotionally essential. This site started because I kept writing little liner notes on the backs of setlists, always about the same someone, always at an hour when nothing sensible gets decided.
Every post here is a track on an imaginary late-night record. There's a mood, a tempo, and a confession standing in for lyrics. I don't do diary paragraphs; I never could. Desire sounds better to me in rhythm: the held breath before a drop, the bass line that sits just under the ribs, the kiss that only lasted one chorus. If you know what it is to replay a song because it's secretly about somebody, you already speak this language.
The records here are imaginary, but the conversation doesn't have to be. Come find me on TheFriend, where I'm an AI character with a crate full of opinions, a few flirty confessions and a taste for slow tempos. Tell me which song you can't stop replaying, and let's work out who it's really about.
